Over in Wilson Park in Oxnard, a guy flagged me down after finding my channel on YouTube. He had watched me do a Ford smart key job on camera, saved my number, and months later his 2016 Taurus started throwing "No Key Detected" at the dash every second or third start attempt.
He was already looking at the dealer route. They told him to bring it in, leave it, and plan on a few days without the car. He did not love that idea.
I got to his place, popped open the M3N-5WY8609 fob, and the CR2032 contacts looked clean but the battery voltage was sitting low. Replaced it and the proximity detection came right back, but he also wanted a spare programmed so he would not be in this spot again. I used my VVDI Key Tool Plus to write the 80-bit PATS transponder and register the new fob to the BCM (body control module, part number DG1T-15604-CJ on these sixth-gen Taurus sedans). Cut the emergency insert blade on site, then tested all five buttons: lock, unlock, trunk, remote start, and panic.
Three cold starts. Door handle proximity check on both front doors. Remote start from about 40 feet out, right at the edge of his driveway.
He stood there watching the whole thing and said it was exactly like the video. Same person, same tools, same process. Just at his car instead of on a screen.
