2013 Ford Taurus
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you're not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths are a documented problem, especially for smart key jobs where people are already stressed and just want the car running. The pattern is always the same: vague phone quote, unmarked car, price doubles when they're done, no way to trace them afterward. EZ Car Keyz has over 100,000 followers across YouTube and TikTok where you can watch us do exactly this kind of work on real vehicles. We give you a firm price on the phone.

Q: Will the replacement smart key work exactly like the original?

Yes. The replacement fob gets programmed to your specific vehicle through the OBD port, and every function gets tested before I leave. Lock, unlock, and the other buttons all confirmed working. One thing worth knowing: a lot of aftermarket fobs sold online are packaged to look correct but aren't properly matched to the vehicle.

Q: I have one working key. Can you add a second smart key without losing the first one?

Yes, and that's actually the easier scenario. When there's already a working key present, adding a second fob is cleaner and faster than an all-keys-lost job. The existing key stays active, the new one gets registered alongside it, and both work independently after. The all-keys-lost situation takes longer because the system has to go through a full reset cycle with a timed delay built in.

Q: My Taurus fob range got really short all of a sudden. Doors only unlock from a few feet away. Bad fob or something else?

Usually the battery. A CR2032 in a smart fob can lose enough voltage to cut range down to almost nothing before the fob stops working entirely. That gradual fade is the most common thing Taurus owners report before they realize the battery is the issue. Swap the CR2032 first. If range comes back to normal, you're done.

2013 Ford Taurus Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A construction worker called me from a job site in Hollister Village at about 6:45 in the morning. Shift started at 7. His Taurus fob had died overnight and the push-button start wouldn't respond. His foreman was already on site and he needed to not be the guy who showed up late.

I keep the van stocked and ready before 6am. I was at his site in 25 minutes.

The door was easy enough to handle. Once inside, I connected through the OBD port and ran a read on the key system. The fob itself was still paired, but the battery was so far gone it couldn't complete the handshake. Swapped in a fresh CR2032, confirmed the pairing came back clean, and tested every button plus the start. Total hands-on time was right around 20 minutes. I left him a spare CR2032 for the glovebox so he wouldn't be back in this spot next month.

He clocked in at 7:15. The dealer route would have meant a tow, a wait for a service bay, and most likely most of the day gone. He texted me that night. Short message, but he meant it.

Ford Taurus Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Ford vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is a California BSIS licensed locksmith company (LCO#6792), fully insured, and credentialed to access manufacturer security data for Ford and other makes. That credentialing means we've been vetted through the proper channels, which matters on a vehicle like the 2013 Taurus where the key system requires diagnostic equipment and security authorization to add or replace a fob.
