2003 Lexus GX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to my location?

For Oxnard and the Carriage Square area, I'm typically on site within 30 minutes of your call, traffic depending. When you reach out, I confirm the year, make, model, and key type so I'm loading the right blanks and equipment before I leave, not guessing when I get there. No waiting on a parts order, no dealer appointment scheduled a week out. I treat every call as same-day.

Q: Can I get a key made today?

Yes. I carry blanks and programming equipment for the 2003 Lexus GX on every call. You're not waiting on a shipment, and you're not getting put on a scheduler's callback list. Call in the morning, have a working key before lunch. That's the version of this job I'm built for.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2003 GX. Can I program it myself?

The 2003 GX remote head key does have an onboard add-a-key procedure that some owners have used successfully, but it only works under specific conditions: you need at least one currently registered working key to enter the programming mode, and the procedure involves a timed sequence through the door lock and ignition. If it works, it works.

Q: My 2003 GX starts fine but the remote buttons do nothing. What is actually going on?

Almost always one of three things. First, a dead or weak CR1616. The remote side of a remote head key drains its battery independently, so the transponder can keep the car starting long after the remote functions stop working. Replace the battery and test range from about 10 feet before assuming anything worse. Second, the fob internals.

2003 Lexus GX Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A mom in the Carriage Square neighborhood called me on a Wednesday morning. School drop-off was done and she had a work meeting she could not move. Her remote head key had stopped triggering the locks, and she had been manually using the key blade to get in and out. The car would still start, but the remote side of things was dead.

She had already called the dealer. They quoted her a wait that stretched past the end of the week and a price that made her pause. She found me online and called while standing in a parking lot.

I pulled up to her, opened my case on the hood of my van, and started with the basics. The CR1616 inside the fob was nearly flat, which explained why the remote functions had gone out while the transponder side kept the car starting. Swapped the battery, tested the lock and unlock range, and confirmed all three buttons were responding clean.

Then I walked the car. Checked lock response from distance, double-checked that everything was registering the way it should. Total time from her first call to handing the key back was well under an hour.

She made her meeting. The dealer wait and the bigger bill stayed theoretical.

Lexus GX Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does a 2003 Lexus GX key replacement take?▼

Depends on where you're starting. If you have at least one working key and just need a spare programmed, the actual on-car programming time is short, typically a few minutes once I'm connected. If all keys are lost, the vehicle security system has a built-in countdown before it will accept newly registered keys. That window runs around 15 to 20 minutes, so the total job lands somewhere in the 30 to 45 minute range from the time I arrive.
