2024 Lexus GX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She called me from the parking lot of a specialist's office in San Roque, Santa Barbara. It was around six in the evening.
Her father had just finished an appointment and was sitting in a wheelchair next to a 2024 Lexus GX that would not respond to anything. She pressed the start button. Nothing. She held the fob directly against the button like you do when the battery is low. Still nothing. The dealer was closed. She needed to get her father home.
I told her to stay put and headed straight there.
Getting the door open was the first step. Then I connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port and pulled up the key system. The 4-button smart key had a CR2032 inside, but the battery contact showed corrosion. The fob was present but not transmitting reliably enough for the vehicle to recognize it as authorized.
I swapped in a new fob, ran the programming sequence to register it to her vehicle, erased the compromised key from the system, and walked every function: door handles, lock, unlock, the start button. Clean across the board.
From her call to engine running was 48 minutes. She got her father loaded and home without a second ride, without a wheelchair transfer into a stranger's back seat, and without waiting until the next morning for a dealer appointment that would have cost her a lot more and a full day.
She didn't say much. She just thanked me and got him in the car. That was enough.
