The call came from Arroyo Burro Beach area. A 2025 GX owner had that sinking feeling when the dash showed "Key Not Detected" after a beach walk.
She'd already tried the basics. New CR2032, cleaning the fob, even the old "hold it against the start button" trick. Nothing. The HYQ14FLC wouldn't unlock the doors, wouldn't remote start, and she was manually unlocking with the emergency blade like it was 2005.
I pulled up and connected my Autel IM608 to the OBD port under the dash. The smart ECU showed error B279A, lost communication with registered key. Common on these when moisture gets in the fob after beach trips. The fix wasn't a new battery or a new fob. I cleared the fault code, ran the re-registration sequence, and waited through the 16-minute security timer.
While we waited, she mentioned the Lexus dealer wanted her to flatbed it to Goleta, leave it overnight, and quoted something that made her jaw drop. Instead, we sat in her driveway while the timer counted down.
Registration complete, I tested every function. Lock, unlock, panic, remote start, walk-away lock, and three push-button starts in a row. Even checked the proximity range from different angles around the GX. Everything back to normal, handled right there at her place.
