I was parked on Alameda Padre Serra, just off the Upper East, when the GX owner came out to meet me in her driveway. She had one working fob left and her husband had taken the other to a trip out of state. She wanted a spare before she ended up with nothing, which is the smartest reason to call a locksmith and the one people almost never act on in time.
The GX is a big vehicle with a presence to match, and she clearly used it that way. There was trail dust on the wheel arches that had no business being in Santa Barbara, which I respected.
I verified ownership, then connected to the OBD port and accessed the vehicle's security system. The 2025 GX uses an encrypted enrollment process with a timed countdown built into the factory security logic. You cannot rush it. I cut the emergency blade to fit the door, registered the new fob alongside the original, and then did the part of the job that takes longer than people expect: testing.
I walked the vehicle and tested the door handle touch unlock on every door, ran the fob buttons, checked start-button response from inside the cabin, and verified the existing fob still worked correctly alongside the new one. Registering a new key should never knock out the one you already have, but I confirm it every time.
She was back inside before I pulled away. No tow, no appointment, no waiting on a parts order.
