Got a call from a woman in the South Bank neighborhood in Oxnard. She was at the parking lot near Nordstrom, sitting in her 2008 Lexus GX 470, holding her only key. The plastic housing had cracked open at the seam and she could see the circuit board inside. The lock button had stopped responding a week ago, and now unlock was going too. I cut a new HYQ1512V blank by code, transferred her working chip to the fresh housing, and programmed the remote buttons through the OBD port. Lock, unlock, panic. Then the ignition. Turned over clean.
She watched the whole thing from about two feet away, leaning on the fender. When I handed her the new key she just turned it over in her hand a few times, checking every button with her thumb.
