A woman near Ojai Valley Inn called about her 2011 Lexus GX 460. She was a widow, and her husband had always handled the car stuff. The nearest Lexus dealer was a freeway drive she hadn't made in years, and she wasn't about to start now.
I drove out that morning.
Her GX was sitting in the driveway, second generation (J150), with the smart key system standard on this trim. She had one working HYQ14ACX fob with a dead CR1632 and a mechanical insert blade she had never used. She needed a spare and wanted the original refreshed.
I set up on her driveway. Decoded the TOY43R emergency blade with my Lishi, cut a clean copy, then ran registration through OBD on the smart key ECU (board 271451-5300). The GX lets you hold up to five fobs, so adding a second was clean. Cycled the old fob back in with a fresh CR1632 seated right, confirmed both registered, then walked the vehicle. Checked every door handle touch sensor, the liftgate button, and the start button response from inside the cabin and from the back seat.
She watched the whole thing from her patio with a cup of tea. Two working smart keys, handed to her before she finished it.
The dealer had quoted her one key plus a tow or a ride she didn't want. She got two keys, at home, for a fraction of what they wanted.
