2011 Lexus GX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2011 Lexus GX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman in Upper Ojai called me on a Tuesday morning. She was matter-of-fact about it: the GX was her late husband's car, she didn't really drive much anymore, and the nearest Lexus dealer was on the other side of the 33 and involved freeway miles she hadn't done in years. She just needed the key to work again.

When I got to her place, the driveway was long and gravel, the GX parked in front of a detached garage, big old oak overhead. She handed me the fob and told me it had been getting worse over a few months. The door handles weren't responding reliably, the fob range had shortened, and once or twice she'd gotten a key-not-detected warning on startup even with the fob right there in her hand.

I popped the fob open. The CR1632 inside wasn't dead, but it was reading low and the negative clip had a slight outward bow, so contact was inconsistent. Replaced the cell, straightened the clip, reseated everything. Then I walked each door handle, tested touch lock and touch unlock on driver and passenger, ran all four buttons, and sat in the driver seat and cycled the start button three times to confirm the vehicle was reading the fob clean at close and mid range.

Every function came back solid. No reprogramming needed, no diagnostic work, just the fob itself sorted out on site.

She mentioned the dealer had told her over the phone she'd need to bring it in, leave it, and plan for at least a day. She hadn't followed up because of the drive. I was in and out in under twenty minutes. That was the whole job.
