2017 Lexus GX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A driver pulled off near Hueneme Beach with half a key blade between his fingers and the other half seated in the ignition cylinder. Snapped clean at the shoulder. He had been running a worn key for a while and finally hit the point of no return.
The extraction was careful work. I used a Lishi tool to fish the broken fragment out without disturbing the wafer stack inside the cylinder. Once it was clear, I decoded the lock from the same read and cut a fresh blade to match.
Here is where the 2017 GX job had a wrinkle the raw draft got wrong. This vehicle runs a smart key system. The fob handles proximity entry and the start button, and the blade inside the fob is the emergency insert for situations exactly like this one. So there was no separate remote to worry about, but there was a full smart key registration to run through the diagnostic port to authorize the new key to the vehicle. I had the right equipment in the van.
He watched me work through it from the passenger seat, asking good questions the whole time. By the time I walked the doors and confirmed the touch sensors and start button were reading the new key clean, he was already composing a text to someone about being back on the road.
He had called a dealer before he called me. Multi-day wait, tow required, and a number that made him set the phone down for a second before calling back. He got it handled on site, same morning, for a fraction of what they wanted.
