2002 Nissan Pathfinder Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near Hobson Park, a guy called me about a 2002 Pathfinder with a broken key. Not lost, broken. The blade had snapped clean at the shoulder, and the stub was sitting inside the ignition cylinder. He'd already called another locksmith who looked at it over the phone and told him the cylinder would need to be drilled out and replaced. New cylinder, new keys, the whole thing.
He wasn't happy about that number, so he called me for a second opinion.
I got there with my extraction tools and a Lishi pick for Nissan. The fragment came out without touching the wafer surfaces. No scratches, no damage, cylinder fully intact. Once the broken piece was out, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position directly. That gave me the exact cut I needed.
I cut a new transponder key blank to match the decode, then programmed the transponder through the OBD port. Because the 2002 Pathfinder wipes the key list on every programming session, I made sure to have him hand me both of his surviving spare keys so all three got enrolled in the same session. Nothing left behind, nothing accidentally erased.
The original cylinder worked with the new key exactly like it did before it broke. He didn't need a new ignition assembly. He didn't need a new lock. He needed someone willing to do the job right instead of the fast way.
