Got a call from a guy down in Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard. He was at the marina, loading gear out of his 2006 Pathfinder, and his only key snapped right at the blade where it meets the plastic head. The transponder chip was still inside the broken head, so the car would crank if he could somehow turn the ignition. But the metal blade was stuck in the cylinder with barely anything to grab onto.
He had already called the Nissan dealer. They told him to tow it in and quoted him a wait of several days for a new key order plus the programming appointment. He was standing in a parking lot near the boats, looking at a broken key in one hand and a weekend trip falling apart.
I drove out to the harbor. Extracted the broken blade from the ignition cylinder first. Then I cut a new NSN14 blade to code on site and built a fresh CWTWB1U751 remote head key with a PCF7936 chip. Registered the transponder through the NATS system using the BCM on his R50-series Pathfinder. Whole job, maybe 35 minutes including the drive.
He sat in the driver's seat, turned the new key, and the 4.0 V6 fired right up. He just nodded, like he expected it but also did not expect it. Grabbed his cooler and headed for the dock. No tow truck, no dealer wait, no lost weekend.
