Montecito job, down in Lower Village. Guy pulls into his driveway after work, hits the start button to shut off his 2022 Pathfinder, and nothing happens. Engine keeps running. Tries again. Still running.
The dash shows "No Key Detected" even though the KR5TXN4 is right there in his hand. He tries the lock button. Nothing. Panic button works though, which tells me something.
I check the fob first. CR2032 reading 2.6V, just below the cutoff. But here's the thing: panic runs on lower voltage than the other functions. Classic symptom. Fresh battery brings it back to 3.1V, and suddenly the Pathfinder remembers how to turn off.
We test everything while I'm there. Start button, remote start, all five buttons, door handle sensors. The BCM had logged a U1000 code for lost key communication, which cleared itself once the fob voltage came back up.
He mentions the dealer quoted two days out just to look at it. Would've been a tow, rental car, diagnostic fee, then they'd sell him the same CR2032 I just installed. Sometimes the simple fix is the right fix.
