Over in the Silver Strand neighborhood in Oxnard, a 2010 Pathfinder owner had been wrestling his ignition for weeks. Wiggling the key, shoving the steering wheel side to side, trying different angles. The usual fight.
He called the dealer. They quoted him for a full ignition cylinder replacement, a new key, and reprogramming through CONSULT III plus. That meant towing the truck in and leaving it for the day. His buddy at a hunting supply store told him to try a locksmith before committing to all that.
When I got there, I checked the cylinder first. The wafers were worn down, which is the number one issue on these R51 Pathfinders and the related Frontier D40 platform once they pass 100k miles. The cylinder housing was fine. No reason to swap the whole unit.
I used my ACDP to pull the immobilizer data from the BCM as a backup before touching anything mechanical. Then I decoded the existing lock, pulled the worn wafers, replaced them, and cut a fresh NSN14 key blade matched to the repaired cylinder. The transponder got programmed to NATS5 on the spot. His separate remote, the CWTWB1U751, paired right back up with no issues.
I showed him the old wafers so he could see the wear pattern himself. He just held one up and said "that's it?" Smooth turn now, no wiggle, and he kept the truck out of the dealer bay.
