Got a call from a guy out near Rincon Beach Park in Ventura. His 2008 Pathfinder had one working key left, and the remote buttons on it had been dead for months. He was locking and unlocking with the blade every time. The plastic housing was cracked right along the seam where the key ring loop sits, which is the weak spot on these CWTWB1U751 shells.
He wanted a spare before the working key finally gave out completely. Smart move.
I pulled up next to his Pathfinder in the lot, cut a new NSN14 blade on my Condor, and seated the new 4D60 chip into a fresh remote head shell. Plugged my programmer into the OBD-II port under the dash and talked to the NATS5 module, which on these lives inside the BCM on the IPDM board behind the glove box area. Registered the new transponder, synced the remote, tested all three buttons and the ignition start.
Then I handed him his old key back and pointed out the crack. He said he had been keeping it together with a rubber band in his pocket. That had actually been pressing the lock button against his leg and draining the CR1620 over and over. Mystery solved on the dead remote too.
Two working keys, both tested, whole thing done in about 25 minutes while the waves were going off behind us. A dealer would have needed the car on their lot and a couple days on the schedule. He just stayed at the beach.
