Out near Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park in Moorpark, a retired librarian flagged me down through her neighbor's recommendation. She had a 2016 Pathfinder SL and needed a spare smart key. The dealer had quoted her a number that made her put it off for over a year.

Her Pathfinder's BCM (body control module, part number 284B2-9PB5A on that generation) holds the key IDs. The tool reads the BCM, I add the new KR5S180144014 fob to the system, and the car accepts it. Cut the emergency insert blade on site using her original as a reference.
The whole thing took about 30 minutes, most of that waiting on the registration handshake to cycle through. She stood in her driveway watching and kept asking if that was really it.
Tested every button. Lock, unlock, panic, remote start, liftgate. Walked the fob around the car to check proximity detection at all four doors and the hatch. Everything responded like factory. She ended up saving a good chunk over what the dealer wanted, and she never left home.
