Got a call from a guy at the brake shop near Lost Canyons Golf Club in Simi Valley. He was already frustrated before I picked up. He had called one of those cheap Google ad locksmiths for his 2006 Subaru Impreza, the guy showed up, charged him way more than quoted, and the transponder key would crank the engine but something was off. I cleared the registration, ran the full procedure with the proper seed-key exchange through the Subaru protocol, and re-registered the transponder.
Clean start, every time. Security light steady, no blink. He just sat there turning the car on and off three or four times like he was waiting for it to fail again.
Whole thing took about twenty minutes and cost him a fraction of what the first guy charged.
