2017 Subaru Impreza Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She was on a patio at a wine bar in Downtown Santa Barbara, celebrating her birthday with friends. Purse off the back of her chair. Gone. Car keys, wallet, phone, all of it. She borrowed a friend's phone and started making calls: police, then her sister, then me.
Her 2017 Subaru Impreza was sitting in the lot with no keys. Her sister called the dealer while she was still talking to the officer. The quote came back at three to five business days, tow it in, and they recommended rekeying the locks on top of the key replacement since a stolen key could still open the doors. The combined estimate was over $700. And they needed the car there before they could even start.
I got there that night. All-keys-lost after a theft is one of the more involved jobs because you have to clear the entire key memory first, not just add new keys on top of the old ones. The stolen fob had to be made useless before anything else. I connected through the diagnostic port, wiped the existing key data out of the immobilizer, and then registered two new fobs from scratch. Cut the emergency blade for the door, walked every button, confirmed both fobs started the car. Done before the police called her back with any updates.
She drove home that night. The dealer quote and the multi-day wait stayed hypothetical.
