2011 Subaru Impreza Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Guy was visiting Santa Barbara, parked near Cottage Hospital to walk the trails along the bluff. Came back, went to start his 2011 Impreza, and the key blade snapped clean inside the ignition cylinder. Just the rubber head left in his hand.
He called another locksmith first. That guy told him the cylinder needed to be drilled out and replaced. New cylinder, new key, and a tow if the steering lock wouldn't release. Big production.
I got there and pulled out my HO01 Lishi. Slid it alongside the broken fragment, worked the extraction without scoring the brass wafer surfaces. Clean pull. No damage to the cylinder at all.
With the fragment out, I decoded the lock right there, reading each of the ten wafer positions for cut depths on the DAT17 keyway. Cut a fresh SUB80 blank on my mobile machine. Then I cloned the 4D62 transponder chip and confirmed it through the OBD port. Immobilizer accepted it on the first crank.
He sat on the curb the whole time watching. When the engine turned over, he just kind of exhaled and stared at the steering wheel for a second. That's the reaction I like. Quiet relief.
No drill, no new cylinder, no tow. His car looked exactly the same as when he parked it. The whole thing took about 25 minutes, and the total was a fraction of what the other guy quoted for the destructive route.
