Got a call from a guy out near Ventura River Preserve who had just flown back from a week-long trip. His 2004 Toyota Sienna was sitting in the airport cell phone lot, doors locked, and the key would not turn the engine over. He had one transponder key to his name and it had taken a beating in his luggage.
He called the dealer first. Earliest opening was Thursday. It was Tuesday. A tow from the lot was going to cost him on top of that, and he still had luggage at his feet.
I got there in about 40 minutes. Slim-jimmed the door, sat in the driver seat, and plugged my Autel IM608 into the OBD-II port under the dash. Read the immobilizer module and confirmed the 4D-67 chip in his existing key was still registered. The problem was simpler than he thought: the key blade had a slight bend near the tip from being tossed around, and it was not engaging the wafer tumblers deep enough to let the ignition cylinder rotate fully to start. Filed the high spot, cleaned the cylinder, and the key turned clean.
Then I cut and programmed a spare right there on the hood. 4D-67 chip, TOY43 blade, registered through the on-board procedure using his working master key.
He stood there holding two working keys like he had never owned a spare before. Drove home before dinner. His car never left that parking space.
