2014 Toyota Sienna
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you're not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths follow a pattern. They quote a vague low number on the phone, show up with no real equipment for your specific vehicle, and the price changes once you're stuck and have no options. They can't tell you the process, they don't know the details of your key system, and they go quiet when you ask for a business license number. Here's what you can do right now: search EZ Car Keyz and read the reviews.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. A properly programmed replacement fob for the 2014 Sienna works the same as the factory key. The immobilizer recognizes it, the start button responds, and the door and sliding panel buttons function the way they should. I test every single function before I hand it over and before I leave the lot. If something's off, I sort it on the spot. You don't drive away with a half-working key and a hope that it figures itself out later.

Q: I have a working key but I want a spare. Do you still need to come out, or can I just buy a fob and program it myself?

You can't self-program a Smart Key on the 2014 Sienna. There's no button sequence or ignition-turn trick that adds a new fob to this system. That type of onboard relearn only exists on older vehicles with a basic transponder key and an ignition cylinder. The Sienna's Smart Key system requires a diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port to register a new fob into the vehicle's security system. So if you bought a fob online already, that's fine.

Q: The sliding door buttons on my fob stopped working but the lock and unlock still function. Is the fob failing?

Not necessarily. On the 2014 Sienna, the sliding door controls on the fob run through a separate part of the vehicle's body control system compared to basic lock and unlock. When lock and unlock still work fine but the sliding door buttons don't, the fob itself is usually not the problem. Start by checking the sliding door lock-out switch inside the vehicle, often located near the driver's door or on the dash depending on trim.

2014 Toyota Sienna Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call at 5:30 in the morning from a guy parked at a supply store in East Simi Valley. His shift started at 6.

His crew was already loading up and he was standing in the lot with a Sienna that wouldn't respond to anything. The push-button start ignored the fob, the door handles weren't reading it, and he couldn't figure out when it had stopped working. Said it was fine the night before.

I was there in under 25 minutes.

Got into the van, connected to the OBD port, and pulled up the key system. The fob battery was the first thing I checked: CR2032, reading low. Not dead, just low enough to make the system flaky overnight when temperatures drop. Replaced the battery and reseated it properly, then ran through the key registration because the system had flagged a loss of sync. Doors, sliding panels, start button, all of it tested before I closed anything up.

He was in the van and pulling out of the lot with time to spare.

He mentioned the dealer had been his first thought, but the nearest Toyota dealership wasn't going to be open for another three hours and a tow would have made him miss the whole morning. He saved a good chunk and kept his shift. Sometimes that's the whole job.

Toyota Sienna Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Toyota vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is fully licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, BSIS License LCO#6792, and carries full insurance coverage. I'm also credentialed through NASTF as a Vehicle Security Professional, which gives me authorized access to the security data and programming procedures needed for vehicles like the 2014 Sienna. That credentialing matters because Toyota's Smart Key programming isn't something you can do without the right authorization and the right tools.
