2017 Toyota Sienna
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths follow a pattern. Low number on the phone, big number once you are standing in a parking lot with no other options. They also tend to get vague fast when you ask specific questions about your exact vehicle. Ask any locksmith you call: what fob does the 2017 Sienna use, what battery does it take, and what does the programming process involve? A legitimate tech answers that without hesitating.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. A properly programmed replacement fob for your 2017 Sienna communicates with the vehicle's security system the same way the factory key does. The engine starts, the locks respond, the sliding door buttons work. Before I leave, I walk every function, every button, every door. If something is off, I catch it on site, not after the fact. That last part matters more than it sounds.

Q: My 2017 Sienna shows a key warning on the dash but the car still starts. What is going on?

That warning showing up while the car still starts is usually the fob battery getting low enough that the vehicle is detecting it inconsistently. The smart key system on this Sienna reads the fob signal continuously, and when the battery drops below a reliable threshold, the system flags it even if enough signal gets through to allow a start. A CR2032 is the correct cell for this fob.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2017 Sienna. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2017 Sienna smart key system does not have a DIY onboard enrollment sequence. There is no ignition-turn trick, no button combination that registers a new fob. Professional diagnostic equipment is required to enroll the replacement into the vehicle's security system. The fob you bought online is just hardware until it gets programmed. Bring it to the appointment and I can program it, which saves the cost of the fob itself compared to buying one from me.

2017 Toyota Sienna Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was a Friday night in Old Town Simi, close to the concert venue on Tapo Street. A couple came out to the parking lot and neither of their two fobs did anything.

No response from the locks, no sliding door movement, nothing on the dash when they sat down. Both fobs dead at the same time usually means one thing: the batteries went out together because they came from the factory together.

They searched for a Toyota locksmith and found me. I was already in the area.

I had their fob style in stock, factory replacement spec, along with fresh CR2032 cells in the van. Opened both fobs right there in the lot, swapped the batteries, seated them correctly, and ran a resync through my diagnostic equipment. Both fobs came back immediately. Doors, sliding door buttons, lock, unlock, the whole thing. Car started on the first press.

The thing I remember is they had already resigned themselves to leaving the car there all weekend and calling the dealer Monday morning. That was the plan. Dealer appointment, parts order, come back later in the week, pay full retail.

Instead they drove home that night. The battery swap and resync is a quick job when you are stocked and two minutes away. The dealer comparison was not even something they brought up. They just looked relieved and left.

Toyota Sienna Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Toyota vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds a California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services locksmith license, LCO#6792, and carries full liability insurance. Beyond the state license, I hold NASTF Vehicle Security Professional credentials. That matters specifically for late-model Toyotas because NASTF is how the industry verifies that a technician has legitimate, authorized access to vehicle security data. Toyota's smart key system on the 2017 Sienna requires professional-grade diagnostic equipment and proper credentials to enroll replacement fobs. Not every locksmith carries both.
