2005 Toyota Sienna Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a mom parked in the Pacific View neighborhood of Ventura. She'd just come out of a conference at the school nearby, went to start her 2005 Sienna, and the key turned but the engine quit almost immediately. It cranked, fired for a second, then died. But the blank used for that copy either had no transponder chip in it or the wrong one, and the vehicle security system was doing exactly what it's supposed to do: letting the engine fire briefly, then cutting it off when it couldn't verify the key. Classic symptom.
Her original Toyota key was back at the house across town. I cut a new key from the correct blank, enrolled it on site, and ran it through a few start cycles in the school parking lot to confirm the immobilizer was reading it clean. No crank-and-stall. Just a normal start, every time.
She made it to her next stop on schedule. The hardware store copy went in her bag as a door key only with a piece of tape on it so she'd remember. I've seen that mistake more than once on this generation of Sienna and it's an easy one to make because the copy looks so convincing.
