2001 Chevrolet Tahoe MECHANICAL-KEY Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Saturday night on the De La Vina corridor in Santa Barbara, a couple came out of the bowling alley and their 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe would not start. They turned the key, it cranked for a second, then died. The security light on the dash was solid. They tried the spare key from the glovebox. Same thing. They figured the truck was done for and started looking at towing it to the dealer on Monday morning.
One of them searched "Chevy locksmith" and called me. I was about 15 minutes out.
When I got there, I could tell right away it was a Passlock II issue. The lock cylinder was turning fine and the cut on their key looked clean, so the mechanical side was good. The Passlock sensor was just throwing a fit. I ran the GM ten-minute security relearn cycle through the ignition, let the system time out, cycled it three times. Security light went off. Truck fired right up.
While I was there, I cut them a fresh spare on a B102 blank since the one from the glovebox was pretty worn on the shoulder cuts. Tested both keys, both started the truck clean.
The wife said she had been dreading the idea of leaving the Tahoe in a bowling alley parking lot overnight. They drove home Saturday night. The dealer would have meant a tow, a wait until Monday, and a bill that made this look like pocket change.
