2024 Chevrolet Tahoe
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long does the programming actually take once you are at my car?

Depends on your situation. Adding a fob when you still have a working key usually runs about 20 to 30 minutes once I am connected and the security timer clears. All-keys-lost takes longer because the system runs a mandatory security access delay before it accepts new fob enrollments. Plan on 45 to 60 minutes for that scenario. Either way, the time is spent at your car, not waiting in a service bay queue.

Q: Can you get here faster than I could get a dealer appointment?

Almost always. The dealer process on a 2024 Tahoe typically involves scheduling days out, potentially ordering the fob if it is not in stock, and blocking off shop time that ends up being a fraction of what you actually waited for. Tahoe owners on GM forums have reported waits of a week or more just to get in the door. I show up at your location in Ojai or Meiners Oaks with the hardware and tools already in the van.

Q: My 2024 Tahoe shows a key warning on the dash even though the fob battery is new. What is going on?

This comes up on the forums more than you would expect. A fresh battery fixes most detection issues, but not all of them.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it, or do I need a specific fob?

Bring it and I will check it. The fob needs to match the factory FCC ID for your specific Tahoe configuration. A lot of aftermarket fobs sold online look identical but are not compatible with the 2024 system, and some are listed with broad year ranges that do not account for mid-cycle security updates. If the part number on the fob you bought matches what your vehicle calls for, we can program it.

2024 Chevrolet Tahoe Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman over in Meiners Oaks called me on a Saturday afternoon. She had one working fob and wanted a second before a road trip she had coming up. Pretty routine request. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait of about a week just for the appointment, plus shop time on top of that.

I met her in Ojai, pulled up the fob and the blank, and got connected through the OBD port. Adding a key to the 2024 Tahoe when there is already a working fob in hand goes faster than most people expect. The security system still runs its access timer, but with a working key present the whole sequence is shorter. Lock, unlock, and all six buttons confirmed working. I walked the doors and tested proximity range before I packed up.

She mentioned she had almost just ordered a fob online to save money. I told her the fob part is the smaller piece of the job. You still need the programming side either way, and an unprogrammed fob sitting in a box does nothing.

She was back inside before the afternoon got away from her. No appointment, no tow, no leaving the car somewhere overnight.

Chevrolet Tahoe Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a replacement Tahoe fob after hours or on the weekend?▼

Call us. Chevy dealer service departments close evenings and weekends, and while OnStar can handle a lockout or a tow, it cannot program a replacement fob or sort out a security enrollment issue. That means if your fob fails on a Saturday night, dealer-side help waits until Monday at the earliest, and then you are looking at an appointment queue on top of that. We work evenings and weekends in Ojai and the Meiners Oaks area.
