Got a call from a guy down near Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara. His 2004 Tahoe was parked in a tight spot between a retaining wall and another truck, and neither his remote nor his key blade was cooperating. The LHJ011 remote had been dead for weeks, and now his only ignition key was so worn the lock cylinder barely turned it.
I parked on the street and walked over with my bag. First thing I noticed was the key blade. Worn smooth on one side, almost no profile left. That is a B102 blank on these GMT800 Tahoes, and when they get that thin they stop reliably engaging the wafers in the cylinder.
Cut a fresh B102 to code on my machine, then turned my attention to the remote. His was the three-button LHJ011, part number 21997127. Dead CR2032, corroded battery clip. I swapped in a fresh cell, cleaned the contacts, and used the OBD port to pair the remote back to the truck. The Passlock II accepted the new key on the first crank, no security relearn needed because the system reads the cylinder sensor, not the key itself.
He sat on a bench the whole time watching boats. Came back, tried the remote, tried the ignition, and just nodded. Whole thing took about 25 minutes. No tow truck, no dealer appointment three weeks out, no pulling that Tahoe out of a space it barely fit into.
