2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from someone near El Presidio State Historic Park in Santa Barbara. She had a 2009 Tahoe LT, one key, and it had just stopped turning over. Cranked but would not fire. Theft deterrent light on the dash staying solid instead of flashing and going out like normal.

She thought the starter was going. Already called a mechanic. But when she described the light behavior, I told her it sounded like the PK3+ system rejecting the transponder. I drove out, plugged my IM608 Pro into the OBD-II port under the dash, and read the BCM. Sure enough, DTC B3055 was stored: transponder signal not received. The key blade itself was fine, no wear on the cuts, but the Philips PCF7936 chip inside had gone dead.

Cut a new Strattec 5912545 blank to her existing cuts, seated a fresh ID46 chip, ran the PK3+ security relearn through the diagnostic port. Took about 25 minutes total. Truck fired right up.

She canceled the mechanic appointment from the driver's seat. That was the whole thing. A dead chip the size of a grain of rice was holding up her entire afternoon. No tow, no parts counter line, no second trip to pick up the vehicle.
