2006 Chevrolet Tahoe
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was a Saturday night near Hope Ranch, one of those quiet Santa Barbara evenings where the marine layer had already rolled in off the water. A couple came out of the bowling alley to their 2006 Tahoe and got nothing. No click, no lights, no response from either fob. They tried both. Still nothing.

They figured they were stranded until Monday. The dealer wasn't picking up, and the idea of leaving the truck in that lot overnight was sitting heavy. One of them searched "Chevy locksmith Santa Barbara" and found me.

I was fifteen minutes out and already had the right fob hardware in the van. When I got there, they'd been standing outside for about twenty minutes. I pulled both remotes and opened them on the hood. One CR2032 was reading nearly flat. The other wasn't much better. The contacts in both fobs had that dull gray film that builds up when batteries have been sitting in there for years - not corroded through, just coated enough to lose the connection.

I cleaned both contact points, seated fresh CR2032 cells, and ran the resync. First fob came right back. Second one took one extra cycle and then locked in. Walked all the door functions, confirmed the key was starting the truck. The whole thing took about twenty minutes on a wet sidewalk in the dark.

They drove home that night. The dealer comparison came up when I was packing my bag - one of them mentioned they'd already been quoted a wait until Monday and a number that made them wince. I just nodded. When the parts are already in the van, a Saturday night call is the same job as any other.
