Over near Lemonwood Park in Oxnard, a guy flagged me down at the community center parking lot. He had a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ that would crank for about two seconds and then cut out. What happened was the first tech didn't finish the security learn procedure. GM's system on the 2018 Tahoe requires a specific key learn sequence through the OBD port, and the BCM enforces a 10-minute wait timer during the process. If you rush it or lose connection during that window, the key gets written temporarily but never commits to permanent memory. The engine cranks to prove ignition works, then the immobilizer kills fuel delivery because the transponder data didn't stick.
I used my B111 Lishi to verify the blade cut matched, then connected my IM608 through the OBD-II port. Cleared the incomplete key data from the BCM, ran a clean learn with the full 10-minute timer, and watched the confirmation come back solid. His HYQ1AA fob with the ID46 chip registered on the first pass.
I showed him the confirmation screen so he could see it was actually written this time. He just nodded and said, "That's what it was supposed to look like the first time."
He'd already paid the other guy, and I couldn't fix that part. But the truck started clean and stayed running.
