2002 Chevrolet Tahoe
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Ask for the license number, a firm written price for your specific vehicle, and the company name before anyone rolls. Scam operations quote low on the phone and find reasons to inflate the bill once they are in your driveway. We give you a real price on the call and it does not change when we arrive. The 2002 Tahoe takes a mechanical key, so there are no vague programming fees or system-access charges to hide behind.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. We cut the replacement key to your vehicle by decoding the lock or pulling the key code, so it operates the ignition and all the door locks the same as the key you lost. Before I leave, I test it in every lock and the ignition myself. You are not signing off on a key that sort of works. It either works clean or we fix it before I pack up.

Q: Can I get a copy made at a hardware store instead of calling a locksmith?

If you still have a working key, a hardware store can trace it. The catch is that hardware store copies are only as good as the key you hand them. A worn original produces a worn copy, and on an ignition that has some miles on it, a slightly off cut can turn stiff or not turn at all. If you are already down to one key or no keys, a hardware store cannot help.

Q: My 2002 Tahoe ignition turns but feels rough and stiff. Is that a key problem or something else?

Could be the key, could be the ignition cylinder, and on a vehicle this age it is worth checking both. A worn key and a worn cylinder wear each other down together over time, so neither feels obviously wrong until one day you get sticking or partial turns. Try the key in the door lock first. If the door lock also feels rough, the key blade is probably the issue.

2002 Chevrolet Tahoe Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She had just left urgent care with her kid and a bag of prescriptions she still needed to fill. The 2002 Tahoe was sitting in the parking lot and her only key was gone. Not locked inside, just gone. It was close to 7pm, the pharmacy closed at 9, and she was doing the math on whether a cab even made sense.

She called the dealer first. Closed. Then she found me and I was about 20 minutes away in the Presidio area of Santa Barbara.

I got there with my manual decoder and a key cutter in the van. Read the lock right there in the parking lot, cut a replacement key to match, and we tested it in the door and the ignition. Turned right over.

From her call to the engine running was under 45 minutes. She made it to the pharmacy with time to spare. The dealer would have been a tow, a morning appointment, and a longer wait. Sometimes it is not about convenience at all. It is just about getting the car running before everything else falls apart.

Are you licensed and insured to work on Chevrolet vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, the state agency that regulates automotive locksmiths. We carry full liability insurance. For a 2002 Tahoe with a mechanical key, the job is cutting a replacement blade to your vehicle, and we have the decoding tools and cutting equipment to do that on site in Santa Barbara without a tow or a dealer visit.
