Got a call from a Tahoe owner out by Ormond Beach in Oxnard. She had one working smart key left and the backup had been missing for over a year. That morning the remaining fob started acting up. Short range, wouldn't unlock from more than a few feet, and the dash kept flashing "No Remote Detected" even with the fob sitting in the center console.
She almost drove it to the dealer. They quoted her a wait of five to seven business days for the part and told her she would need to leave the truck there.
I pulled up, popped her HYQ1AA open on the tailgate, and the CR2032 looked fine voltage-wise but the board had a corroded contact point. Swapped the battery, cleaned the 13508280 board contacts, and reseated everything. Range came back to about 30 feet. Good start, but she still needed a second fob.
Cut the HU100 emergency insert blade, connected my IM608 to the OBD port, pulled security access through the body control module, and ran the key learn procedure. GM's security timer on the K2XX takes its time. Programmed both fobs, then tested.
Not just a start. Every button. Lock, unlock, hatch, remote start, panic, all six. Walked the parking area checking range. Three clean start cycles back to back. She stood there watching the third start like she was waiting for it to fail.
It did not. Whole thing took about 40 minutes, and she kept her truck the entire time.
