Downtown Ojai, right off Ojai Avenue near the arcade, a Tahoe owner learned what "Service Theft Deterrent System" means when you're late for work.
His YG0G21TB2 remote unlocked the doors fine. The push-button start saw the key. But the engine would crank for two seconds, then die. Every time. The dash kept flashing that theft message like he was trying to steal his own truck.
I pulled up next to his Tahoe in the bank parking lot. First thing I checked: the BCM for stored codes. P1629 was sitting there, which meant the Body Control Module and Engine Control Module weren't talking right. This happens on these K2XX platform trucks when the BCM firmware gets glitchy.
The fix wasn't a new key. I ran the immobilizer relearn through my Tech2Win clone, which forces the BCM and ECM to shake hands again. Ten minutes of watching security timers count down. When it finished, the truck fired up and stayed running.
He mentioned the dealer wanted to tow it in, diagnose for two hours at shop rate, then probably sell him a new BCM. We fixed it in that parking lot for way less than their diagnostic fee alone.
