2006 Ford Explorer Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a woman in Camarillo near St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital. Her 2006 Explorer had one working key left and the remote buttons had quit months ago. She was locking the doors with the key blade every time, which tells you how long she'd been putting this off.

Cut a new H84 blank on my HPC machine right on the tailgate of my van. Generated the 4D63 transponder through my VVDI Key Tool, then connected to the OBD-II port under the dash to run PATS. Ford's system enforces a ten-minute security timer before it accepts a new key code into the PCM. So we stood there in the shade and talked about her kid's soccer schedule while the Explorer thought it over.

After the countdown, the new key fired the 4.0L V6 on the first turn. Tested lock, unlock, and panic on both remotes. Swapped her dead CR2032 while I was at it.

She said the dealer quoted her an appointment a week out. I was done before her lunch break ended.
