Got a call from a woman near the Santa Susana Depot Museum in Simi Valley. She had just pulled in to meet someone at the parking area off Los Angeles Avenue, shut off her 2017 Explorer, stepped out, and the doors locked behind her with the fob still sitting in the center console.

She tried the door handle touch sensor. Nothing. The fob was inside and the two CR2025 cells were apparently too weak to broadcast through the glass. Her emergency HU101 insert blade was clipped inside the fob, which was inside the car.

I got to her in about 35 minutes. Opened the door non-destructively and handed her the fob. Popped it open right there on the hood and both CR2025 cells read under 2.4 volts each. Swapped them, cleaned the contact clips, and tested every function: lock, unlock, remote start, hatch release, panic. Then I connected my IM608 Pro through the OBD port, read the PATS module on the BCM (part number GB5T-15604-BJ on her build), confirmed both her key IDs were still learned, and cleared a U0164 lost communication code that had logged when the fob went dead near the ignition ring.

She sat in the driver's seat, hit the push-to-start, and the 3.5L turned over clean. No warnings on the dash. She was on her way in under 20 minutes, for a fraction of what the tow-and-dealer route would have cost.
