2006 Lexus IS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman at the dry cleaner off Spring Road in the Mountain Meadows neighborhood in Moorpark flagged me down about her 2006 Lexus IS 250. Not literally, she had called the day before, but she was standing outside waiting when I pulled up. Her smart key had been replaced by another locksmith about a week prior, and it was going sideways.
Mornings, the IS would start fine. By afternoon, the push-button start would flash "Key Not Detected" and refuse to crank. She thought her car had an electrical issue. It didn't.
I pulled the fob apart on her hood and read the transponder with my programmer. The other shop had loaded the wrong chip profile. The XE20 IS with Smart Access runs a Texas Instruments TMS37126 in the smart ECU, and the chip data in her replacement fob did not match the protocol the car expected. That is why it worked intermittently: the passive polling would sometimes catch enough of the signal on a fresh cold start, then reject it once the system cycled through its deeper verification.
I programmed a new HYQ14AAB with the correct data matched to her smart ECU, and swapped the CR1632 while I was in there since the old one was already reading low. Tested every door handle sensor, the trunk release, and ran three start-stop cycles.
She has had zero issues since. The difference between a key that holds and one that fails after a week is the chip profile inside, and there is no shortcut around that.
