Got a call around midnight from a guy in the East Ventura neighborhood. His 2017 Lexus IS was sitting in the driveway, push-to-start, and the only fob he had just quit on him. Dashboard reading "No key linked to this vehicle." He had already been scrolling flatbed prices on his phone and getting quotes for a morning tow to the dealer.

Pulled up about 12:15am. His HYQ14FBA was dead to the car. Not a battery issue. The fob's 8A transponder had lost its registration, which happens sometimes after a hard battery drain or a fob that took a hit. The mechanical emergency blade still turned the driver door lock, so at least he could get inside, but the engine would not turn over no matter where he held the fob.
I connected to OBD, ran the Lexus smart key AKL procedure through the diagnostic port, and re-registered his proximity fob on the 8A protocol. Board 281451-2110 confirmed, all four buttons tested, push-to-start confirmed, walk-away lock confirmed.
Whole thing took about 35 minutes in his driveway at half past midnight.
He kept looking at the dash like it was going to throw another message. It didn't. He was already researching what a dealer visit plus tow plus waiting until business hours would cost. I saved him all of that. He drove the car into his garage and that was the end of it.
