She was at a wine bar in the Wilson neighborhood of Oxnard when someone lifted her clutch purse off the back of her chair. Keys, ID, cards, all of it gone at once. She borrowed a phone, called the police, then her husband, then me.
Her 2020 Lexus IS was sitting in the parking lot with zero keys in existence. Her husband had already called the dealer. They told him the car would need to be towed in, the wait was four to five business days, and they were recommending a full smart key system reset. The estimate they gave him was not a small number.
I got there that evening. All-keys-lost after a theft is a different job than a simple second-key add. The first thing I do is wipe the key memory completely so the stolen fob is electronically dead to the car. Doesn't matter if someone finds that purse later. That fob won't start the IS.
I connected to the smart key ECU through the diagnostic port, cleared the existing key data, and enrolled two new fobs from scratch. Then I decoded the door lock and cut the emergency blade that lives inside the fob housing, tested it in the door cylinder, and walked every button on both fobs before I called it done.
She was driving home before the police even called back with an update. The dealer route would have meant a tow, almost a week without the car, and a bill that was way more than what she paid me. I get why people call the dealer first. I just tend to be faster and a lot cheaper for a job like this.
