Out in Blackstock, in Oxnard, I got a call from a woman who'd bought her 2022 Lexus IS used about a year earlier. Came with one fob. She always meant to get a spare made. You know how that goes.
The fob housing had cracked along the seam, probably from a drop she didn't think much of at the time. When she tried to use the metal blade to get in manually, it snapped off in the door lock. So she was standing in a parking lot with the fob body in one hand and nothing else working.
When I got there, the chip board inside the cracked housing was still intact. That mattered a lot. On this generation IS, a full all-keys-lost reset takes longer because the security system has a timed sequence built into the process. Since the original fob's internals were undamaged, I could transfer the board into a new shell and skip that longer route entirely.
I extracted the blade fragment from the door lock, decoded the cylinder, and cut two new blades. The original fob got rebuilt into a fresh housing. Then I registered a second fob as a spare so she'd never be in this spot again.
She watched the whole thing from her doorstep. When I handed her two working keys, she looked at them for a second like she was waiting for a catch.
Total time was right around 45 minutes. She'd already called the dealer before she called me, and what they quoted her was enough to make the decision easy. If you've still got the broken fob, even if it looks wrecked, bring it. The board inside might be just fine.
