1995 Nissan Altima
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for a 1995 Altima?

You call, give me your VIN and location, and I confirm the key blank and cut specs before I even leave. When I get there, I verify ownership, then either cut from your existing key if you have one, or decode the cut from your door or ignition lock if you don't. There's no programming step on this vehicle. Once the key is cut correctly and the blade profile matches, it works.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

A valid photo ID and proof of ownership, usually your registration or title. That's it. I pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb to confirm the key specs. If you have a working key or even a worn one, bring that too since it can speed up the cut. If you're in an all-keys-lost situation, I decode from the lock directly. Nothing complicated on your end.

Q: My 1995 Altima key turns but the car won't start. Is this a key problem?

On a 1995 Altima, if the key turns and the engine doesn't start, the key itself is almost certainly not the cause. This generation uses a mechanical key only. If the key rotates the cylinder, it's doing its job. What you're more likely dealing with is a worn or damaged ignition switch behind the cylinder, a fuel delivery issue, or something electrical unrelated to the key.

Q: My key still works but it's worn down and sometimes sticks. Do I need a whole new lock cylinder?

Usually not. A worn key on a 1995 Altima will sometimes bind or stick in the cylinder, but that's most often the key, not the lock. Get a replacement key cut from the original bitting code or decoded from the cylinder, and test it. A fresh accurate cut will usually free up the bind that a worn key was causing. If the cylinder itself is damaged or the wafers are worn out, that's a separate job.

1995 Nissan Altima Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a couple staying at a place up in The Riviera neighborhood of Santa Barbara. They were in from out of town, had been visiting family, and somewhere between packing and loading the car they realized the one key they had was gone. Not worn out, not broken. Just gone. Lost in the chaos of a family visit.

They called the dealer first. The dealer wanted them to tow the car in, verify ownership in person, and come back the next morning during business hours. That was their evening gone and their morning gone, and they still had a drive ahead of them.

I showed up that night with my van. Pulled the VIN, confirmed the key specs, and decoded the cut directly from the door lock cylinder. Had a replacement key blank that fit the application, ran it through my cutter, and did a quick test in the door and ignition. Fit clean, turned smooth.

The whole thing took under a half hour on site. No tow, no appointment, no overnight wait. They were back on schedule. The dealer option would have cost them a full day and a good chunk more money. For a 1995 Altima, there is no programming involved, no module to talk to. The work is in the cut, and that is work I do every day.

Nissan Altima Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 1995 Nissan Altima somewhere for a key replacement?▼

No. I come to wherever your car is. The Riviera, a parking lot downtown, a driveway off Mission Canyon Road. Doesn't matter. The 1995 Altima takes a mechanical key with no electronics involved, so there's no module to connect to and no reason to visit a dealer or shop. I bring the blank, the cutter, and the decoding tools. Everything gets done next to your car. You hand me nothing except your ID and proof of ownership.
