Out in Nyeland Acres, I got a call from a guy who had just gotten back from a work trip. He had parked and walked away fine, but when he came back and tried to leave, the key turned and nothing happened. Engine cranked, would not fire. He had a working key, the car just refused to go.

I calculated the security PIN from the module, used it to re-register his existing key, verified the immobilizer cleared, and had him start the car himself. He sat there for a second like he expected it to stall again.
It did not stall.
The dealer had quoted him a full key replacement plus labor. I got him running with the key he already had, on his driveway, for a fraction of what they wanted. He asked if he should get a spare cut while I was there. I told him yes, and he was smart to listen.
