1997 Nissan Altima
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

1997 Nissan Altima Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman over in San Roque, the kind of neighborhood where the streets have a little personality and everybody knows at least one neighbor by name.

She had a 1997 Nissan Altima, one working key, and a strong suspicion that replacing it was going to be an ordeal involving the dealer, a waiting room, and a bill she didn't want to think about. Her neighbor had suggested she call me instead.

When I pulled up, she was already outside with the key in her hand, half-explaining what she needed before I got out of the van. She wanted a spare. That was the whole job.

I looked up her key code, cut a replacement blade on site, and handed it to her. She tried it in the door, tried it in the ignition, and stood there for a second like she was waiting for something else to happen.

That was it. No appointment, no tow, no waiting room. Done in her driveway in Santa Barbara while the neighbor watched from across the street.

She mentioned the dealer later almost as a footnote, said she'd called them first out of habit. What they quoted her for the visit alone would have paid for more than she needed. The mechanical key on this car is one of the simpler jobs I do, and it's satisfying every time because the relief on the customer's face is completely out of proportion to how involved the work actually was.
