Saturday night off Patterson Road corridor in Oxnard, a group of friends came out of a Korean BBQ spot and their 2016 Altima would not start. "NO KEY DETECTED" on the dash, push button doing nothing. They figured the car was stuck until Monday and called me just to ask if anything could even be done that late.
I was about 15 minutes out with everything already in the van. Nissan key blanks, Intelligent Key housings, CR2032 cells, programming tools. I do not order parts when you call.
Their fob was the 5-button KR5S180144014. I popped it open on the roof of the car and the CR2032 was toast. Not corroded, just completely drained. Swapped it, but the fob still was not registering with the car. The key had lost its pairing to the BCM, which happens sometimes when a battery sits dead long enough that the module drops the ID.
Quick registration through the OBDII port using the NATS pin from the BCM, and the fob came back to life. Remote lock, unlock, trunk, proximity detection on every door handle, and push-to-start all responded on the first try.
They drove home that Saturday night. No tow, no dealer wait until Monday. One friend was sitting on the curb recording the whole thing on his phone like it was a magic trick. It is not. It is just having the right stock and showing up when people actually need you.
