2016 Nissan Altima
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you're not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths have a predictable pattern. Low number on the phone, big number once you're standing in a parking lot at night and your options feel limited. They also tend to go quiet when you ask specific questions about the vehicle or the tools involved. Ask any locksmith you're considering this: what does the programming process look like for a 2016 Altima Intelligent Key, and what equipment do you use? A legitimate tech can answer that without hesitating. We can.

Q: Will a replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. Once programmed, the replacement Intelligent Key communicates with the vehicle's security system the same way the factory fob does. The start button responds, the door handle touch-unlock works, and the remote functions all behave normally. We test everything before we leave. Both front door handles, every button on the fob, and a confirmed start cycle. If anything is off, we find it on site, not an hour later when you're somewhere else.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2016 Altima. Can you just program it, or is there a problem with that?

It depends on what you bought. The Intelligent Key system on the 2016 Altima requires the fob to match the factory ID for your vehicle. Aftermarket fobs vary a lot in quality, and some simply won't register no matter what equipment is used. If you have the fob in hand, bring it or have it ready when I arrive and I can tell you quickly whether it's going to work.

Q: One of my door handles stopped triggering the touch-unlock. The fob works fine otherwise. What's going on?

Almost certainly not the fob. If the start button still sees the key and the other handle works, the fob is doing its job. Touch-unlock on the 2016 Altima uses a capacitive sensor built into each door handle. Those sensors can fail on their own, and the wiring to that specific handle can develop an issue that has nothing to do with the key system at all. It's a door-side problem, not a key problem.

2016 Nissan Altima Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already running calls in Oxnard on a Saturday night when the message came in. Group of people, parked near RiverPark, 2016 Altima that wouldn't respond to anything. They'd been clicking the fob in the parking lot for a while and figured they were stuck until Monday.

I was about fifteen minutes out and already had the right Intelligent Key hardware stocked in the van. I don't order parts when someone calls. The whole point of being mobile is showing up with what the job needs.

When I got there, the fob was completely dead. No range, no door response, nothing. First thing I walked them through was the backup start procedure, just so they understood the car wasn't broken. Held the fob to the start button, engine turned over. That moment always settles people down.

The fix was a fresh CR2032 and a full reprogramming to confirm clean communication with the vehicle's security system. Range came back immediately. I walked every button, tested the handle touch-unlock on both front doors, and confirmed the start button was reading the fob at normal distance before I handed it back.

They drove home that night. The dealer would have meant a tow, a Monday appointment, and a bill that was a lot heavier than what they paid me. When the parts are already in the van, a Saturday at 10pm is the same job as a Tuesday morning.

Nissan Altima Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Nissan vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services and carries full insurance. For the 2016 Altima Intelligent Key system, programming a new fob isn't a plug-and-play operation. The vehicle's security system has to recognize and register the new key, and that requires professional-grade diagnostic equipment and legitimate access to the programming process.
