2022 Nissan Altima
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths follow a pattern. Low number on the phone, high number once you're stranded and they're already there. They also tend to go quiet when you ask specific questions about your vehicle. A legitimate locksmith working on a 2022 Altima should be able to tell you, before they arrive, what key type it uses, roughly how long the job takes, and give you a real quote over the phone. If they can't answer those questions, they're guessing.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. A properly programmed replacement fob for the 2022 Altima gets registered to the vehicle the same way the factory key was. The vehicle security system recognizes it, the engine starts, and the buttons function the way they're supposed to. We test every single function on site before we hand the key over. Lock, unlock, the remaining buttons, proximity detection at the door handle, and a full start cycle. You watch it happen.

Q: My 2022 Altima is showing a key-not-detected warning even though I have the fob with me. What's going on?

This one comes up a lot on Altima forums, and most of the time the answer is the fob battery. The 2022 Altima fob takes a CR2032, and when it gets weak, the car can drop the connection intermittently rather than all at once. You might get the warning in certain spots in the car, or only when the fob is in a pocket near a phone or card with an RFID chip.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2022 Altima. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2022 Altima does not have an owner-accessible self-programming sequence for smart key fobs. Registering a new fob to this vehicle requires a diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port. The aftermarket fob you ordered still needs that step, so you'll need a locksmith or dealer to complete it regardless. Bring the fob when you call. As long as it's a compatible blank, we can cut and program it on site in Marina West.

2022 Nissan Altima Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near Marina West when a message came in. A Pilates instructor at a strip mall studio in Oxnard needed a spare key cut before her next class. She had maybe 40 minutes.

She'd already texted me the VIN before I left my previous stop, which is exactly what I ask for. With the VIN in hand I knew the key configuration before I arrived, had the correct blank pulled, and walked up to her car already knowing what I was working with. She had her ID ready, her original fob in hand, and zero drama.

Because she had a working key present, the job went the add-a-key route. That means the existing fob stays registered and the system gets a second one added alongside it. I cut the new blade on the machine in my van, ran the programming sequence through the OBD port, and walked every function: lock, unlock, the remaining buttons, proximity at the door handle, and a start cycle. Everything confirmed.

She was back inside before her next client showed up. She mentioned what the dealer quoted her when she'd called earlier that week. I kept a straight face. She saved a good chunk.

Nissan Altima Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Nissan vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds an active California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services license and carries full liability insurance. For late-model Nissan vehicles like the 2022 Altima, the key registration process requires going through the OBD port with professional-grade equipment and legitimate access to the vehicle security system. Not every locksmith advertising online has the tooling or the credentials to actually complete that job.
