Over in the Del Sol shopping area in Oxnard, a guy was sitting outside a smog check station with a dead 2019 Altima and a story I have heard before.
Another locksmith had tried an all-keys-lost job on his car. Somewhere mid-programming, the car battery sagged, the security handshake dropped, and the NATS6 module threw a fault. The BCM locked itself into an error state. The other tech packed up and left. The smog shop found my number.
I got there and the first thing I did was hook my jump pack to the battery terminals. Stable voltage the entire time, no exceptions. That is the rule with NATS6 and AES key registration. A dip below 11.8 volts during the handshake and the BCM will reject the sequence and sometimes refuse to restart it.
I connected my IM608, cleared the stored fault codes, and started a clean all-keys-lost procedure from scratch. His Intelligent Key was the 5-button KR5TXN4 proximity fob, part number 285E3-6SA7B. Once the module had a stable reset, the new fob learned on the first attempt. Proximity unlock on both front handles, trunk release, remote start, push-button ignition, all tested at the car before I touched anything else.
Took about an hour and a half, which is longer than a normal key add. But he drove away instead of riding in a flatbed to the dealer, and he saved a good chunk doing it that way.
