I got a call from a guy over in Oxnard Shores, parked two blocks from the water. He had his 2025 Altima smart key in hand, brand new CR2032 already swapped, and the car was still throwing a key-not-detected warning every few attempts. Sometimes it would start. I checked the battery contacts inside the fob housing and found one of them had a slight outward bow, probably from a previous battery swap where someone had pried too hard. The new CR2032 was making intermittent contact, which read to the car as an unstable or absent key signal.
I straightened the contact, cleaned both terminals, reseated the battery, and ran through the full check: door handle touch unlock on both front doors, start button response, and all five buttons. Everything came back solid.
He did not need a new fob. He needed someone to open the one he had and look at it properly. The dealer had already quoted him a wait and a parts order. He was back in his car in about twenty minutes from when I pulled up.
