Got a call from a guy near Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks. His 2007 Mustang GT was parked at his apartment and would not start. He turned the key, the theft light on the dash, the little padlock icon, was blinking fast instead of going solid and turning off. Engine cranked but would not fire. Classic PATS rejection.
He told me he had been using this key for years. Never had a problem. But the transponder chip inside the H75 key head can weaken over time, or the plastic housing cracks just enough that the chip shifts position. Either way, the PATS transceiver ring around the ignition cylinder stops getting a clean read.
I pulled up to his spot, plugged my programmer into the OBD-II port, and ran the PATS key erase and relearn. His was an all-keys-lost situation at that point since the one key he had was no longer being accepted. Programmed two new 80-bit H75 transponder keys, cut to his door code right there on my mobile unit. The theft light cycled, went solid, then off. Cranked and fired.
The whole job took about 25 minutes. He had already called the dealer earlier that day and was told to tow it in and leave it, probably two to three days turnaround. He got it back the same night for a fraction of what they quoted.
