I was finishing up a call in Carriage Square on a Monday when my phone rang. Dad's voice, tight. His 2020 Mustang was sitting in the daycare parking lot and his only smart fob had stopped being recognized. He'd already tried the backup position, holding the fob to the start button. Car was not cooperating.
He'd called the dealer first. They told him Thursday was the earliest they could get him in, and that was before any parts were confirmed in stock. He had a toddler, no second vehicle, and a work schedule that didn't care about any of that.

I pulled up, popped the fob open, and looked at the battery first. It was a CR2032. Someone had swapped it at some point, probably grabbed whatever was in the junk drawer. Seated in the holder, looked plausible, but a CR2032 is thinner than a CR2450 and the contact was barely touching.
Dropped in the correct CR2450, seated it properly, and checked the contacts while I was in there. The fob woke right up. I still ran a quick function check because I don't close out a job on assumptions: lock, unlock, every button confirmed working, start sequence confirmed.
He picked his kid up that afternoon. The dealer slot on Thursday sat empty.
