2022 Ford Mustang
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Legitimate question, and Ford owners get targeted specifically because the key work looks expensive and people are sometimes desperate. Scam operations quote one number on the phone, show up unmarked, and charge something completely different after the car is already open. No real business name, no traceable number, no reviews. EZ Car Keyz has over 100,000 followers across YouTube and TikTok where you can watch this exact type of work being done on real cars.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. A properly programmed replacement for the 2022 Mustang smart key gets registered to the vehicle's security system through the diagnostic port, and every function gets tested before I leave the job. Lock, unlock, the backup blade, all of it. One thing worth knowing: a lot of aftermarket fobs sold online aren't cut out for this. They may unlock the doors fine but fail to communicate with the vehicle for starting because the internal hardware doesn't meet the spec.

Q: My 2022 Mustang says it doesn't detect the key but the fob feels fine. What's actually going on?

This one comes up a lot. The key-not-detected warning on these doesn't always mean the fob is dead. A few things cause it. The CR2450 can test at acceptable voltage with a basic meter but still be too weak to reliably trigger the antenna, especially in hot weather or after the car has been sitting in direct sun in Oxnard heat.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2022 Mustang. Can you still make a replacement?

Yes. All-keys-lost on a 2022 Mustang is a job that requires diagnostic equipment and security credentials, but it's done on-site. The existing key memory gets cleared, the new fob gets registered, and the backup blade gets cut to your vehicle. Plan for about 45 minutes to an hour on-site. Bring proof of ownership because that's required before any all-keys-lost job gets started.

2022 Ford Mustang Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A couple in College Estates called me on a Friday night after coming out from a movie to a Mustang that wouldn't respond to anything. The fob was dead. No lock, no unlock, no start. They'd never heard of the backup start procedure and were already looking up tow companies on their phones.

I was about 15 minutes away. The van was already stocked with the right fob battery for their car, along with fob housings and the programming gear. Nothing to order, nothing to wait on.

When I pulled up, I had them try the backup procedure first, just to confirm the fob was the actual problem and not something deeper. Nothing. Completely dead cell. I popped the fob, swapped in a fresh CR2450, cleaned both contacts while I was in there, and seated it properly. The fob woke up on the first press.

From there I walked every button, checked the range from across the lot, and confirmed the start. Took maybe 20 minutes total including the contact cleaning and the full test.

They drove home that night. The dealer would have meant leaving the car in the lot until Monday and paying considerably more than what they paid me. When the van is already stocked, a Friday at 9pm is no different from a Tuesday morning.

Ford Mustang Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Ford vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds a California BSIS locksmith company license (LCO#6792) and carries full insurance. On top of that, I hold NASTF Vehicle Security Professional certification, which means I've been vetted for access to manufacturer security data across major makes including Ford. Newer Ford smart key systems require that kind of credentialed access to do the job correctly. We operate under a real business name, have verifiable reviews, and have been doing this work for over eight years.
