It was a July afternoon in Downtown Oxnard, the kind where the asphalt smells like it's done being patient. She was standing next to her 2023 Mustang in a hospital parking lot, pressing the fob, getting nothing. Groceries in the back seat. Frozen stuff. She could see the car.
