Del Sol Park, Tuesday afternoon. The owner's 2023 Mustang GT wouldn't recognize either of her smart keys. Just "No Key Detected" on the dash, doors locked, engine silent.
She'd already tried the manual key slot trick from YouTube. Nothing. Called the dealer in Ventura and they wanted her to flatbed it over, wait three days for programming. She found me online instead.
I pulled up with my Autel IM608 Pro and FDRS access. First thing I checked: TSB 23-2017. Ford issued it for exactly this scenario on 2023-2024 S650 Mustangs. The BCM firmware can randomly forget programmed keys. Not the owner's fault, not dead batteries.
Connected through OBD, ran the BCM update. Takes about twelve minutes with the ignition cycling itself a few times. Both her original M3N-A3C054339 fobs came back to life. No new keys needed, no towing, no three-day wait.
Before leaving, I showed her the backup start procedure Ford buried in the manual. Hold the fob against the start button if the battery ever dies. She took a photo of that page.
Whole job took under thirty minutes in her driveway. Way less than what the dealer wanted for the same BCM flash.
