Got a call from a guy out near the Fillmore and Western Railway area. He had been running trails outside Fillmore and somewhere between the trailhead and the parking area, his key disappeared. Probably slipped out of a cargo pocket on a climb. His 1995 Jeep Cherokee XJ was sitting in a dirt pullout, locked, and he was stuck.
He had already called another locksmith who told him the ignition would likely need to be drilled out and replaced with a whole new cylinder assembly. That is a real thing some guys jump to, but it was completely unnecessary here.
I drove out and used my Y159 Lishi tool to decode his door lock. Read each wafer position directly from the cylinder without pulling it, without drilling, without scratching anything. Got all the cut depths, went to the van, and cut a fresh Y159 blade to code on my HPC Blitz.
Key went into the door, turned clean. Key went into the ignition, fired right up. No transponder to worry about on a 1995 XJ, so there was no programming step at all. Just a correctly cut mechanical key.
His Cherokee looked exactly the same as before I touched it. Same lock cylinder, same ignition housing, same dash. He drove out of there with a working key for a fraction of what that other locksmith quoted him for a full cylinder tear-down he never needed.
