2025 Jeep Cherokee
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long will a replacement key last?

The programming doesn't expire or wear out. Once a key is enrolled, it stays enrolled until the system is reset or the key is manually removed. The physical fob is the variable. With a quality shell and a fresh CR2450, you're looking at years of normal use before anything needs attention. Battery life on the CR2450 format is generally solid, but owners report that extreme heat, which is not irrelevant in Oxnard summers, can shorten the cycle.

Q: What if the new key stops working after a few weeks?

Call us. Everything we program is covered under our warranty. That said, when a freshly programmed Jeep key stops working, the vehicle is usually the starting point for diagnosis, not the key itself. Low vehicle battery voltage is a common culprit. If the main battery is weak, the security and keyless modules don't get stable power, and the system can start behaving erratically, dropping enrolled keys or throwing a key-not-detected warning for no obvious reason.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it for me?

Sometimes, but there's a catch. The fob has to match the factory FCC ID for your specific Cherokee. If it doesn't, the security gateway won't accept it, full stop. If it does match, we can enroll it. Bring the fob, bring the car, and we'll check compatibility before we start. If it works, you covered the part cost and we handle the programming. If it doesn't match, you'll need the right blank and we carry those.

Q: The fob range on my 2025 Cherokee has gotten really short. Is it dying?

Short range before total failure is one of the most common patterns the CR2450 shows on this generation of Jeep fob. The battery holds a usable voltage for a long time, then falls off fast. If you're having to stand next to the car to get it to respond when it used to work from across a parking lot, swap the CR2450 first. That fixes it the majority of the time.

2025 Jeep Cherokee Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call one morning from a woman in Nyeland Acres who works at a daycare nearby. She was in the parking lot, running behind, and her 2025 Jeep Cherokee was just sitting there not cooperating.

She'd already swapped the fob battery the week before, so she knew it wasn't that. The fob would lock and unlock the car, but the push-button start wasn't seeing it. The dash was throwing a key-not-detected warning every time she pressed the button with the fob right in her hand.

By the time I pulled up, she had already called the dealer. They told her she was looking at a next-day appointment and a loaner situation. She had twelve kids waiting on her in about twenty minutes.

I pulled up my diagnostic equipment, connected through the OBD port, and ran the security access sequence. The existing fob was still enrolled but the system had flagged it. I cleared the fault, re-enrolled her fob, and tested push-button start from both the driver and passenger sides to confirm the antenna was reading correctly. Everything came back clean.

Total time on site was about 35 minutes, most of which was the security handshake doing its thing. She made it to work late, but not absent. She texted me after her shift to say the kids didn't even notice.

The dealer would have had her car for a day and a half. She saved a good chunk just by calling me instead.

Jeep Cherokee Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do you use OEM or aftermarket keys on Jeep vehicles?▼

We use OEM-spec blanks that match the factory FCC ID and are built to the same electronics specification as the original. Aftermarket fobs for Jeeps are a mixed bag. Some work fine once programmed, but forum threads on Cherokee owners groups are full of complaints about off-brand fobs that pass the programming sequence but then drop connectivity after a few weeks.
