2007 Jeep Cherokee Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A travel photographer staying at an Airbnb near Las Posas Park in Camarillo called me late one evening. She was between assignments, had one key for her 2007 Jeep Cherokee, and it had just stopped doing anything. Buttons dead, engine would crank but kill itself after half a second. I pulled up to the driveway that same night. Popped her remote head key open on the hood. The CR2032 was corroded enough to explain the dead buttons, but that would not cause the immobilizer fault. The transponder chip inside the key housing had a hairline crack in the plastic carrier, probably from being dropped on something hard. The DST-40 chip was not reading through the WCM at all.

Cut a new OHT692427AA blank on my machine in the van. Programmed the fresh transponder to her Wireless Control Module through OBD using pin code pulled from the vehicle. Whole job, about 25 minutes once I confirmed the blade profile matched her door and ignition.

She watched the dash the first time it started clean, like she expected it to stall again. It did not. She was back to packing camera gear ten minutes later.
